The Elk Cow
Summer, 2004: Sometime this summer our mail carrier, who Steve works with, told him that she saw a bull elk about a mile from our neighborhood. Not long after, "our" elk cow disappeared. We never heard anything about her, which makes us fairly confident that she caught scent of the bull elk and followed him back to the herd. If she had been injured or killed we would likely have heard it through the neighborhood grape vine, and there was never even the slightest rumor....
We hope we're right, and our elk cow is back with her mother's herd, living the life she should.
