Psyche, Echo's sister, is still a little shy when new people visit us, but she no longer hides until they leave. She recently realized that people are often nice and might pet her.
Her name is from a more complicated myth than is Echo's, so I'll just link to a good page describing the story, here. It is one of those great myths that has long-lasting influence; I'm pretty sure "Beauty and the Beast" derives from the story of Eros and Psyche.
Psyche is the "spaz" of our cat family. She's quirky and has social issues with other cats, but she loves Phred and can often be found curled up with her as intimately as she used to curl up with Echo. She claims me as hers and harrasses me if she wants food or attention. She spends almost every night curled up tightly at my side.
