Things have settled in nicely with the three current indoor cats, Phred, Psyche, and Chester. They're an odd mix, two years apart from each other and each one originally adopted after losing a previous cat. And yet... somehow they work as a cat family. Phred and Chester play like siblings, even though she's the oldest (6 1/2) and he's the youngest (3). Psyche mostly tolerates all of the chaos and occasionally has a little spat with one or the other. I think she still misses her sister, Echo, with whom she was inseparable. But occasionally we find her being affectionate towards Phred or even Chester (othewise her nemesis).

We also have two stray cats who we feed. One, Buddy, is a true stray, getting meals at several houses, hunting, and living in various outdoor shelters, primarily an old, collapsed doghouse in the hillside next to our driveway. Spooker, on the other hand, has adopted us and lives mostly on our deck. If we could take her in, we would, but the other cats have little enough space inside as it is. They also have such a tenuous balance that we don't think we should disturb it. So, for now at least, Spooker lives on our deck.
